Northeast Business Park is a proposed large scale, mixed use business park and marina precinct, located on a 760 hectare site on the southern banks of the Caboolture River. The development of the site will be a catalyst to repositioning the identity and economy of the region, however it will also result in change to the semi rural residential character of the local community.
Integral to the development approval process was the commitment to undertake an extensive community consultation programme with the communities of the northern Moreton Bay area. The community participation included meetings, workshops, presentations and individual briefings with local residents and businesses; environmental and recreational groups; cross cultural consultation with indigenous, Torres Strait Islanders and Australian South Sea Islanders as well as emerging immigrant groups; and government agencies.
The consultation provided significant breadth and depth of information with respect to attitudes and values and the data collected was used to inform the development of the master plan. Significantly, the relationships formed during the consultation also facilitated the development of partnerships with respect to rehabilitation and revegetation programs and skilling and employment initiatives. It also led to the creation of a strategic business reference group and an equity employment and training advisory group.
The Hornery Institute also undertook the social impact assessment for the project and managed the successful completion of the cultural heritage management agreement.
