Union is the proposed redevelopment of the railway station in Milton, approximately 2km from the Brisbane CBD. The project represented one of South East Queensland’s first mixed use, high density developments as part of the city-wide focus on transport oriented development.
The introduction of the TOD concept has created a significant change management agenda for Brisbane’s residents who are not accustomed to high-rise living. The proposed development of a mixed use development at Milton Station also called into question the character and identity of the area – which many local people found challenging.
The Hornery Institute was engaged to design and deliver a community consultation to explore and mediate critical issues of height, design, ground plane access, amenity and public realm. The program was undertaken through an intensive series of workshops and studio sessions that complemented the statutory public consultation.
